Bio

Guilherme Cosme is a Brazilian singer-composer based in Dublin. Guilherme found solace in art at a young age. In his teens the musician begun to write songs. He initially trained his baritone voice by studying the work of Jazz greats like Patricia Barber, Andy Bey and legendary Nina Simone.

As a solo artist Guilherme has produced a solo EP titled ‘Demon.’ The record is a dark and meditative collection of five songs written for voice and piano which finds the singer diving deep into his own battle with mental illness. He  wrote these songs as catharsis while struggling with depression, PTSD and bipolar disorder. With this record Cosme hopes to reach out to those who struggle with similar issues and to raise awareness of the pain and suffering many face in silence.

Guilherme’s first solo album (Persephone and the Ghost Brother) are out now. His second solo album “They Call Me Names” was released in April 2023. The new record is a semi-autobiographicl collection of 12 songs for voice, piano and strings exploring mainly themes of child neglect and abuse, trauma and adulthood.

The follow ups to “They Call Me Names” are already in the works. The first one is a project dedicated to Andrei Tarkovsky, one of Cosme’s biggest artistic influences. The album will explore themes of dreams, time, human condition and spirituality. The double record to follow titled “Elegia” shares some similarities with its predecessor,  and it’s  described by the artist as a cathartic collection of 16 songs for voice, piano, string ensemble and flute. Cosme’s fourth solo studio album will introduce a different side of the composer who until now has adopted a semi-autobiographic and confessional approach in his work. Inspired by storytelling songwriters and minimalistic contemporary composers like Wim Mertens, the album will tell the story of a slavic family struggling in times of war. The record explores universal themes of human condition, grief, existentialism and again adulthood through the lenses of a fictional character whose reality is far distant from Cosme’s.
